Find Joy in the Job

With a recent invoice payment, we received a handwritten thank you note insert from a client, (and we were still in the middle of the assignment).

At a board meeting, we were given an iced sugar cookie in the shape of a unicorn with appreciative words of how unique our services were to the exact needs of that board and foundation.

Another time, we received a crystal vase from an executive committee with sentiments of how we served as the vessel for their cause to flourish and how they hoped we would remember them by filling the vase with fresh flowers in the future.

We have received cookie boxes, potted plants, personalized coffee mugs, scores of hand-written notes, flowers, gift cards, and hundreds of client kudos. Why do I mention this?

Because every day, we find joy in our job – and best of all, those we serve do, too!

It helps explain why we do what we do; why we continue to choose this career of consulting and project management for the nonprofit sector above all others. We consider it a real privilege to link arms with nonprofit leaders across North Texas to help them advance community causes, and it is in that demanding work together that we all find fulfillment.

The shared experiences with nonprofit executives, their board members and community partners – those servant-leaders willing to roll up their sleeves to affect positive change for the greater good - is what keeps us motivated and on task. The appreciation shared by our clients and the satisfaction they feel while giving of their time, talent, and treasure is remarkable and is a great part of why this small company of ours is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

It is also one big reason I encourage others to join our Project Partners consulting team or enter the nonprofit profession in general. There is no other career that puts you at work among the most generous and energetic people on earth, and who so gladly show their appreciation.
